Chibi Maruko-chan

The first run is a hundred and forty two episodes. The second has been going since 1995 and nobody can tell you how many it is, including the people who make it.

Where to start with Chibi Maruko-chan

Nobody watches this in order and you should not try. Every broadcast is one or two self contained stories about a nine year old in 1970s Shizuoka, and after the first few you have the whole premise. Start wherever you land.

  1. 1
The 1990 run, any episode Chibi Maruko-chan (1990)

If you want the version with a number attached to it, this is the one that has one: a hundred and forty two episodes, beginning to end, and it is finished.

  2. 2
The 1995 run, whatever is on Chibi Maruko-chan (1995)

Thirty one years of the same thing, still airing on Sunday evenings. There is no entry point and no catching up to do.

  3. 3
A Boy from Italy, the 2015 film Chibi Maruko-chan: A Boy from Italy

If you would rather have one complete thing than an episode, this is the newest film and it stands alone.

Then what? The two 1990s films sit beside the first run. The live action versions retell the same material with actors and are a curiosity rather than part of anything.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
