Chihayafuru

Seventy four anime episodes about competitive card slapping, and the sequel everybody expects turned out to be live action.

Where to start with Chihayafuru

Three seasons of anime in order, and then a decision. There is no fourth season and there is no anime continuation, so the story carries on in print and, oddly, in live action.

  1. 1
Season one, twenty five episodes Chihayafuru

Chihaya, Taichi and Arata as children, then the karuta club at high school.

  2. 2
Season two, twenty five episodes Chihayafuru

Straight on. Its OVA is numbered as a twenty sixth episode and is a bundled extra rather than part of the broadcast.

  3. 3
Season three, twenty four episodes Chihayafuru

Made nearly seven years later with the same studio and cast. It is where the anime stops, and it does not finish the manga.

  4. 4
Chihayafuru -Meguri-, ten episodes Chihayafuru -Meguri-

Optional and strange, but it is the only continuation on screen: a live action sequel set ten years after the film trilogy, with Netflix subtitles. It follows the FILMS rather than the anime, so watch the three films first if you want it to land.

Then what? The three live action films retell the same early story with actors, and the first two were shot together as one piece. The manga is finished at fifty volumes and goes a long way past where the anime stops, and a sequel manga with a new lead has been running since 2023.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
