It won a Peabody, Emmys and a Golden Globe and then spent thirty four years effectively unavailable, because clearing its music cost more than anyone wanted to spend. The 2013 complete series DVD required 302 songs to be cleared. A separate figure, more than 250 songs with seventeen that could not be cleared and were cut or replaced, appears in accounts of the original production. Those are two different numbers about two different things and should not be added together. Counts unconfirmed, deliberately. Three totals are all defensible. Sixty one is the series without the pilot. Sixty two counts the pilot as one. Sixty four splits both the two hour pilot and the two hour finale into parts, which is what the DVD set and two episode databases do. This page uses 61 plus the pilot listed separately. What we could not find out, and it is the thing most likely to matter to you: whether the streaming version carries the original songs, the cleared DVD set, or replacement cues.
