City of God

On the data. One film and three things that came out of it, and only one of those is a continuation. The film cast almost entirely from the favelas it depicts. Most of the performers had never acted and were trained in workshops run over months rather than auditioned. Several went on to long careers. Its Academy Award nominations came two years after its release, in 2004, because of how its American distribution was staggered. It was nominated for directing, adapted screenplay, cinematography and editing, and did not win any. City of Men is the confusing part. It is a television series from 2002 and a film from 2007, made by the same people with two young actors who also appear in the original film, but about different characters and a different story. It is a companion, not a sequel. City of God: The Fight Rages On, in 2024, is the actual continuation, with several of the original cast returning. Its episode count and whether more is coming are not settled here, so the row is flagged. It is adapted from Paulo Lins's novel, which he wrote over eight years based on the place he grew up in.
