On the data. Nine television series carry the Digimon name and only two of them continue each other. Digimon Adventure in 1999 and Digimon Adventure 02 in 2000 are one story with one cast, and that story was later extended by the six Digimon Adventure tri. films from 2015 to 2018, by Last Evolution Kizuna in 2020 and by Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning in 2023. Everything else is a fresh world: Tamers in 2001, Frontier in 2002, Data Squad in 2006, Xros Wars in 2010, App Monsters in 2016, Ghost Game in 2021 and Beatbreak from October 2025 share the brand, the concept of a partner creature and nothing else. Tamers is the most common recommendation for someone who wants one series with no homework, and it is a notably darker show than its predecessor. The 2020 series titled Digimon Adventure: is the case people get wrong most often, because it uses the same eight children and the same partners as the 1999 show. It is a reboot, not a sequel, it tells a different story, and it does not connect to 02, tri. or Kizuna. It has its own group here for that reason. Within the Adventure continuity the films matter more than usual. The twenty minute 1999 short is a prologue set four years before the series. Our War Game! sits between the two series, and Revenge of Diaboromon in 2001 is its sequel, set during 02. Digimon Hurricane Touchdown is also set during 02. Digimon: The Movie, released in North America in 2000, is not a separate story at all: it is those first three Japanese films cut together into eighty-eight minutes with new dialogue, new music and a rewritten plot connecting them, so it is listed here outside the story order and should not be watched as if it were a chapter. The tri. films are counted two different ways and this is worth stating plainly. They were released in Japan as six theatrical chapters between November 2015 and May 2018, and this site lists them that way, as six films. Crunchyroll and several trackers instead present the same footage as a twenty-six episode series by splitting each chapter into television length parts, which is why a search will tell you tri. is either six films or twenty-six episodes. Both are the same material. Episode counts elsewhere are stable in Japanese, but English releases are not. Adventure and 02 were dubbed in full at 54 and 50 episodes, with names, music and a great deal of dialogue changed. Xros Wars was dubbed as Digimon Fusion covering the first two parts, and the third part, The Young Hunters Who Leapt Through Time, has never had an English dub, so the English version of that series ends 25 episodes short of the Japanese one. App Monsters was never dubbed at all and is only nominally a Digimon series, since its creatures are Appmon. Where a Japanese and an English count differ, this page uses the Japanese broadcast count, because it is the complete one. Digimon Beatbreak began on 5 October 2025 and was still airing at the time of writing, with no announced total, so its count is listed as zero rather than guessed from the usual fifty-episode pattern. Ghost Game is listed at 67 episodes; some sources add a separately produced special to that figure and give 68. The small tie-in films for Tamers, Frontier and Savers are listed inside the Separate continuities group because each belongs to its own world and to nothing else.
