The show is set in the games' world but it is a new story with new people, and the only thing a player gets that a newcomer does not is the furniture. There is one structural thing to know: a thread of flashbacks runs through both seasons, set two hundred years before the rest. They are not a separate thing to watch and they are not out of order. They are the show explaining itself.
