Free Willy

Three cinema films, one reboot nobody saw, and a cartoon that gives away the second film.

Where to start with Free Willy

In release order, and there is one genuine trap in it. The cartoon came out between the first and second films and it foreshadows things that then happen in the second film. Watching the series after the second film turns those into repeats; watching it in order is how it was meant to go.

  1. 1
    Free Willy (1993) Free Willy

A boy in trouble is put to work at a marine park and befriends the orca the owners are worth more dead than alive.

  2. 2
The animated series (1994) Free Willy

Twenty one episodes on ABC across two seasons, continuing Jesse and Willy's story and setting up the second film.

  3. 3
Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home (1995) Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home

An oil spill, and Jesse again. Still in cinemas and still the same cast.

  4. 4
Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove (2010) Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove

Only if you want it all. A straight-to-video reboot thirteen years later with nobody from the earlier films, set in South Africa.

Then what? Free Willy 3: The Rescue from 1997 sits between those last two and is the weakest of the three cinema films, about whaling rather than a marine park. The real Willy was an orca called Keiko, whose own story after the first film became a long public campaign and is worth reading about separately.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
