Where to start with Orange Is the New Black

Season one, episode one, and do not read the memoir first. The book covers roughly what the first season covers and then stops, because it is one woman's account of thirteen months inside. From season two the series is about the whole prison and almost none of it is Piper Kerman's story any more.

  1. 1
Season 1 Orange Is the New Black

Thirteen episodes in 2013. Piper arrives at Litchfield and the show is still mostly her point of view, which is the part the memoir covers.

  2. 2
Season 2 Orange Is the New Black

The turn. The series stops being about one woman and becomes an ensemble, and the flashback structure starts doing the real work.

  3. 3
The memoir, afterwards Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison

Kerman's 2010 account of her own sentence. Read it when you have finished, as the thing the show grew out of rather than a guide to what happens.

Then what? Every season is thirteen episodes, so the whole run is ninety one and the shape never changes. It ended on 26 July 2019.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
