Where to start with Signal

The Korean series, all sixteen, and do not start with the Japanese one. A detective in the present finds a walkie-talkie that reaches a detective in 1989, and each change they make to an old case changes the present around them. The Korean version tells that story to an ending. The Japanese version is a separate remake that then continued past where it stopped, which is only interesting once you know the original.

  1. 1
    The Korean series (2016) Signal

Sixteen episodes on tvN, 22 January to 12 March 2016. Cold cases, a radio that should not work, and a structure that pays off.

  2. 2
    The Japanese series (2018) Signal

Only afterwards, and only if you want it. A remake on Fuji TV with the same premise and different cases.

  3. 3
Signal the Movie (2021) Signal the Movie

Continues the Japanese series rather than the Korean one. It needs the Japanese remake and nothing else.

Then what? A second Korean season was confirmed to be in production in March 2024. Nothing has aired and no date has been given, so it is not listed here.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
