On the data. Two films, and the second is the reason this page has anything to say. The first film is about an arcade. It licensed real game characters, which studios almost never manage, so Bowser, Zangief, Sonic, Q*bert and others appear as themselves. It also has a self contained story with a proper ending. The sequel moves to the internet and changes what kind of film it is. A large part of it is a tour of brands and websites, including a long sequence with the Disney princesses that got used heavily in the marketing. More to the point, it takes the friendship the first film built and puts it under strain in a way a lot of people found unpleasant rather than moving. It is well reviewed on balance, but the split among people who loved the first film is real and it is worth knowing about before you start. Nothing else exists. A third film has not been announced. One piece of trivia worth having: the arcade game in the first film, Fix-It Felix Jr, was built as a real playable cabinet and toured. It is not a prop that only exists on screen.
