Where to start with Bill & Ted

All three films in order. Nothing else is required and nothing is out of sequence.

  1. 1
    Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

The one that works on everybody. A time travelling phone booth and a history report, and it never once condescends to its two idiots.

  2. 2
    Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey

Much stranger than the first. Both of them are killed about twenty minutes in and the rest is hell, Death, and a Bergman parody. Go in expecting a different film.

  3. 3
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020) Bill & Ted Face the Music

Twenty nine years on, same two actors, and a real ending. Their daughters carry as much of it as they do, which is the point.

Then what? There are two television shows and they share a title. The 1990 cartoon is the only one with Reeves and Winter, and only in its first season: season two moved network and recast them both. The 1992 live action series is a different programme entirely, seven episodes on Fox, with the same replacement actors. Neither is needed for the films and neither is treated as part of them. A fourth film has been talked about and never ordered.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
