Ted

Two films, and a television series set inside the gap the first film skips over.

Where to start with Ted

Release order. The television series is a prequel, and it does not merely come before the first film: it sits inside it, in the twenty seven years the film crosses in a single line of narration. Watching it first would mean meeting a sixteen year old John before you have any reason to care.

  1. 1
    Ted (2012) Ted

The wish is made at Christmas 1985 and the film then jumps twenty seven years in one move. Everything else in the franchise lives either side of that jump.

  2. 2
    Ted 2 (2015) Ted 2

About three years on from the first film in total, with a courtroom plot about whether Ted counts as a person. It assumes you know the first film's ending.

  3. 3
    Ted (2024, Peacock) Ted

Fifteen episodes across two seasons, set in 1993 and 1994 with John at sixteen. It fills in the years the first film crosses in a sentence, and it is much better once you already know who these people become.

Then what? That is everything watchable. Seth MacFarlane said in March 2026 that there is no plan for a third season, citing the cost of animating the bear, though it has not been formally cancelled. An animated Ted series was ordered by Peacock in 2025 and we have not been able to confirm that it has aired, so nothing is listed for it.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
