Adam is gone, written out as having gone to sea. New regulars arrive in seasons nine and twelve.
Sixteen episodes without Hoss, after Dan Blocker died between seasons. The show acknowledged it rather than recasting, and was cancelled partway through the year.
Then what? The Return and Under Attack go in that order and share a cast. The Next Generation is a separate attempt with different actors. Ponderosa is a prequel and is better after the fact than before it.
