Bridget Jones

Four films that run in a straight line, and a fourth novel the films never reached in the order you would expect.

Where to start with Bridget Jones

Four films in release order. That is the whole instruction, and it matters more here than in most series because the fourth film opens on the consequences of the third and states them in its first few minutes.

  1. 1
    Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) Bridget Jones's Diary

Bridget starts a diary on New Year's Day, sleeps with her boss and meets a barrister she takes an instant dislike to. Nothing precedes it.

  2. 2
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

Picks up with Bridget and Mark together. No interval is stated on screen, and the film assumes you know who both men are.

  3. 3
    Bridget Jones's Baby (2016) Bridget Jones's Baby

Opens with Bridget at 43 and separated from Mark. She is pregnant and does not know which of two men is the father. Twelve years of real time passed, and the film does not caption the gap.

  4. 4
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (2025) Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

Four years after the events of the previous film, and the film says so. Bridget has two children, which is why it cannot be watched before the third.

Then what? That is all four. The novels are listed separately because the third film is not the third book, and reading in publication order will hand you the ending of a film you have not seen.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
