On the data. FORTY YEARS, FIVE SERIES AND ONE SCHOOL. This is the longest running drama Canada has made, and the thread through all of it is Stefan Brogren, who first appeared as Snake in 1987 and was still there as the principal in 2017. The five drama series come to five hundred and twenty one episodes between them, and the total at the top of this page adds the six part documentary to that. THE ONE THING THAT WILL CATCH YOU OUT. The Kids of Degrassi Street is NOT part one of the story. Junior High is a spin-off rather than a sequel, and the production used the same young actors in completely different roles. The girl who plays Lisa Canard in the first series comes back as Caitlin Ryan; the boy who plays Griff comes back as Wheels; the girl who plays Karen comes back as Lucy. Nine actors do this. If you watch the first series expecting continuity you will spend the second one confused about why everybody has a new name. Watch it for what it is, a gentle children's show about one street, and start the actual story at Junior High. WHAT IS SERIALISED AND WHAT IS NOT. The Kids of Degrassi Street is almost an anthology: one self contained story per episode, title formula X does Y, order optional. Everything from Junior High onward is seriously serialised, unusually so for 1987: one ensemble aging in real time through school years, arcs that run for months, labelled two parters that must stay together, and a finale that burns the school down and forces the rename to Degrassi High. School's Out ends that story properly. THE NEXT GENERATION IS THE BIG ONE and it needs a word about where to start. Fourteen seasons is a lot to ask. Season one is short, fifteen episodes, and sets up relationships that pay off for a decade, so it is the right default. But the cast turns over completely at the season nine to ten boundary, which is exactly why the title drops The Next Generation at season ten: the next generation had graduated. Season ten is a genuine second front door, new cast, new network, four episodes a week. CANADIAN DATES, NOT AMERICAN ONES. This matters more here than on almost any other page. The American broadcasts were out of step throughout: PBS merged the first two seasons of Junior High into one and cut scenes out of the Degrassi High premiere without asking the producers; TeenNick ran the season eight finale sixteen days before Canada did and the India special eleven months late. The Canadian order is the production order and the story order, and it is what this page uses. THE THREE FILMS ARE ALREADY COUNTED. Degrassi Goes Hollywood closes season eight, Degrassi Takes Manhattan closes season nine, and Don't Look Back closes season fourteen. Each runs two hours and is numbered as four episodes inside its season, so they do not get rows of their own. A site that lists them separately is counting them twice. Don't Look Back is also the pilot for Next Class. THE AMERICAN BLOCK NAMES ARE MARKETING. The Boiling Point, In Too Deep, Now or Never, New Beginnings and Showdown are TeenNick's names for runs of episodes inside a Canadian season. They are not seasons, and the episode counts given for them do not even add up to the seasons they sit in, so nothing here is built on them. WHAT IS NOT LISTED, AND WHY. The nine travel and clip specials, from Degrassi in Kenya to Degrassi in Nicaragua, sit outside the 385 and outside the continuity. Degrassi Minis, roughly a hundred three minute shorts, are enumerated by no source this site trusts, and five of them were later cut together into one of the specials, so listing both would double count. Degrassi Between Takes and the aftershows are behind the scenes. AND THE TWO THINGS THAT NEVER HAPPENED. HBO Max ordered ten hour long episodes of a new Degrassi in January 2022, from WildBrain, aimed at spring 2023. The Warner Bros Discovery merger killed it and it was reported scrapped in November 2022. Not one frame aired, so it carries no row and no count. Separately, Toronto Life reported in August 2025 that Drake, who played Jimmy Brooks, is working on a new series through his company. Nobody named has confirmed it, there is no title, no platform and no order, so it is a rumour and is treated as one. ONE THING THAT EXISTS AND YOU PROBABLY CANNOT WATCH. Degrassi: Whatever It Takes, a 111 minute documentary about the franchise, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025. No distributor has been attached and this site could find no streaming, broadcast or cinema release since, so it is described here rather than listed. If it turns up somewhere, it gains a row.
