Den of Thieves

On the data. Two films and one strong recommendation: do not read about the first one before watching it. The first film has a twist at the end that the entire sequel is built on, and the sequel gives it away in its opening minutes. So the order is not optional here in the way it usually is with crime thrillers. The debt to Heat is enormous and openly acknowledged: a Los Angeles crew, a police unit that respects them, and a long conversation between the two leads. It is the better kind of imitation, the kind that knows what it is doing. The second film moves to Europe and changes register: less shooting, more planning, closer to a heist picture than a crime drama. Reviews were kinder to it than to the first. A third has been talked about by the director. Nothing has been dated.
