Greenland

On the data. Two films and a straight line between them. The first is a disaster film that is mostly not about the disaster. The comet is largely off screen and the film is about a family trying to get onto an evacuation flight, being separated at a checkpoint, and dealing with people behaving badly under pressure. That focus is why it was better received than its premise suggested. It also had an unusual release. It came out during the pandemic, skipped cinemas in most countries, and did well enough on rental and streaming to justify the sequel, which then took five years. The sequel picks up in the bunker and moves the family across a wrecked Europe. It is a continuation rather than a new story, so it needs the first. There is nothing else attached: no series, no third film announced.
