Where to start with Gremlins

The two films in order. The animated series is a prequel and works either before or after them, though it lands better once you know who the old man in the shop is.

  1. 1
    Gremlins (1984) Gremlins

Three rules, a Christmas present and a town coming apart. It and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom are the reason the PG-13 rating exists.

  2. 2
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) Gremlins 2: The New Batch

A direct sequel with the same cast that spends its time demolishing itself, including a stretch where the film appears to break and the gremlins take over the projector. Very little like the first.

  3. 3
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai (2023) Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai

The animated prequel, set in 1920s Shanghai sixty years earlier. It explains how the shopkeeper in the 1984 film came to have Gizmo, so it pays off much better after you have seen that film.

Then what? The series runs twenty episodes across two seasons, and the second one goes out under a different subtitle, The Wild Batch, which makes some services list it as a separate show. A third film is dated for November 2027, written and directed by Chris Columbus, who wrote the original. It is listed here as unreleased.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
