Hercules (Disney)

On the data. Two things: the series, and the myth. The series is a prequel that does not fit cleanly. It puts Hercules in a school for heroes as a teenager, which is before the film, but it was made afterwards and it plays like a follow-up: it expects you to know Hades, Phil and the muses. It also contradicts the film in places, most clearly about when Hades finds out Hercules survived. So it is best watched after the film even though it is set before it, and best not thought about too hard as continuity. Zero to Hero is a compilation. Four episodes were recut with new connecting scenes and sold as a film. There is nothing new in it. On the myth: the film is not remotely the story of Heracles. In the myth Hera is not his mother but the goddess who hates him, because he is Zeus's son by a mortal woman; she drives him to kill his own wife and children, and the labours are his penance for that. Hades has no part in any of it. The film makes Hera his mother, makes Hades the villain, and removes the crime the labours exist to atone for. Worth knowing before you use it as a reference for anything. A live action version has been attached to Guy Ritchie since 2020 with no date.
