Psycho

One of the most famous films ever made, three sequels Anthony Perkins came back for, a remake copied shot for shot, and a prequel series.

Where to start with Psycho

Watch the 1960 film and stop, unless you want more. If you do want more, the surprise is that the sequels are not worthless: Psycho II in particular is a real film with Anthony Perkins giving a careful performance, which almost nobody expects. The television series is a prequel but is set in the present day, so it is not a period piece and it does not lead into the film in a tidy way. Watch it after, never before.

  1. 1
    Psycho (1960) Psycho

The one. Go in knowing as little as possible, which is difficult now because the whole film has been given away for sixty years.

  2. 2
    Psycho II (1983) Psycho II

If you want more. Twenty-three years later with Perkins back, and it is far better than it has any right to be.

  3. 3
    Bates Motel (2013) Bates Motel

Fifty episodes, a prequel, and set now rather than in the 1950s. Treat it as its own thing.

Then what? Psycho III and Psycho IV complete the Perkins run. The 1998 remake is a curiosity rather than a film: Gus Van Sant reproduced the original almost shot for shot and the result mainly demonstrates why that does not work.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
