On the data. The ordering problem here is real and it has five separate causes, all of which compound. First, the television series was cancelled on 1 April 1989 at episode 114, at the end of the Poseidon arc, and the manga's final arc was not animated until 9 November 2002. The single most important continuation in the franchise arrived thirteen and a half years late, in a different medium, on pay-per-view satellite. Second, those Hades chapters were not one release. They came out in four blocks: thirteen episodes to April 2003, six more starting December 2005, six more starting December 2006, and six more in 2008. That is a two year eight month gap, then a ten month gap, then a thirteen month gap, inside one continuous story. Numbering restarts at one for each part, so there is no single running episode count, and different catalogues list the same thirty one episodes as one series, as three, or as four seasons. Third, the Asgard arc at episodes 74 to 99 is anime original and does not exist in the manga, which is normally harmless filler except that Soul of Gold in 2015 is a direct sequel to it. So a 2015 release depends on a 1988 arc with no manga basis, plus a 2008 OVA. Fourth, the Heaven Chapter film was released on 14 February 2004 and is set after the Hades arc, which did not finish airing until 1 August 2008. A theatrical continuation shipped four and a half years before its own prerequisite. Wikipedia calls it the one canon film; Omega then ignores it, and Kurumada wrote his own Heaven arc in print instead, first as Next Dimension from 2006 and now as Saint Seiya: Heaven Chapter from May 2026. The often repeated claim that Kurumada personally disowned the film appears only in forums, so this page does not make it. Fifth, the spin-offs sit in three different relationships to the main story and nothing in their titles says which. Saintia Sho from 2018 is set during a 1986 arc. The Lost Canvas is set two hundred and fifty years earlier, by a different author at a different studio. Omega is a sequel with a new cast. Legend of Sanctuary and Knights of the Zodiac are full reboots. Two counting notes. The Lost Canvas manga is dated 2006 to 2011 by one Wikipedia article and 2006 to 2016 by another; the difference is whether the Anecdotes continuation counts, and the core serialisation ended in April 2011. Saint Seiya Omega is ninety seven episodes by every source, but its final broadcast date is given as either 22 or 30 March 2014 and this page does not choose. Published watch order guides are unreliable here in a way that is itself evidence of the problem: one of the top ranked English guides lists the Hades Elysion chapter and The Lost Canvas as if they were the same series, which puts two works by different studios set two hundred and fifty years apart in the same slot, and drops Elysion from its order entirely as a result. On what comes next, no new Saint Seiya anime has been released since Battle for Sanctuary finished on 10 June 2024. Kurumada launched Saint Seiya: Heaven Chapter in print in May 2026. Nothing further is announced.
