Scanners

Cronenberg made one film and had nothing to do with the four that followed, two of which are sequels in name only.

Where to start with Scanners

Watch the 1981 film. Everything after it is a different, much cheaper series, and only one of the four is a real sequel.

  1. 1
    Scanners (1981) Scanners

Cronenberg, and the only entry he had anything to do with. If you only ever see one, see this one.

  2. 2
Scanners II: The New Order (1991) Scanners II: The New Order

The only true sequel. The protagonist is the son of the original film's two leads, which is a real thread even if the film around it is a fraction of the budget.

  3. 3
    Scanner Cop (1994) Scanner Cop

Start of the only other thing worth following. A separate two film spin off with its own lead, shot in Los Angeles. It continues directly into Scanners: The Showdown, so treat those two as a pair.

Then what? Scanners III: The Takeover from 1992 shares no characters and no plot with anything. Watch it only if you want another one. Scanners: The Showdown from 1995 follows straight on from Scanner Cop and is also sold as Scanner Cop II, so if you see both titles on a list, that is one film counted twice.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
