Made twelve years after the previous one and much better than anyone expected. It is chronologically the latest entry in the whole franchise, and its ending sets a course for Far Far Away.
Then what? Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After go between the second film and The Last Wish, and the 2011 Puss in Boots is optional but is required setup for The Last Wish. Shrek 5 arrives on 30 June 2027 and a Donkey film is dated a year after that.
