On the data. Thirty episodes have aired across five seasons of six. A sixth season premieres on 16 September 2026 and is not counted here; a seventh has been ordered with no date. The first three seasons put two episodes out on the premiere day, so a season is six episodes across five dates. From the sixth season onwards the tidy rule of one season per novel breaks: the sixth adapts both Joe Country and Slough House, which makes the seventh Bad Actors. Nine novels exist, listed here in publication order, which is also the order to read them. The shorter pieces are the thing that makes book counts disagree. There are five of them, The List, The Marylebone Drop, The Catch, The Last Dead Letter and Standing by the Wall, and they were gathered in 2022 into a single volume also called Standing by the Wall, which is listed here as one book rather than five. Watch for three traps: The Drop and The Marylebone Drop are the same work under British and American titles, the name Standing by the Wall means both one novella and the collection containing it, and Dolphin Junction is a general story collection that retailers routinely mis-tag as part of this series. Herron's own site omits The Last Dead Letter from its summary of the collection while the publisher lists it, and its year is given as either 2020 or 2021. Reconstruction, Nobody Walks and The Secret Hours share the world without being part of the sequence and are left out. Clown Town carries four different publication dates across editions, so a source saying 2026 is citing a reprint rather than being wrong.
