Lee Young-ae plays a woman released after thirteen years in prison for a crime that is not straightforwardly hers, and the film spends its first half on the preparation rather than the act. Choi Min-sik, who was the lead in Oldboy, is in this one as a different character entirely. That catches people out and is worth saying: these three films share actors and a director and no story. The second version is real and is called Fade to Black and White. Park made it by draining the colour gradually across the running time, so that the film starts in full colour and finishes in monochrome without any single moment where it changes. He has described it as the version he would show if he could only show one. It circulated on home video in some territories and not others, so which one you can find depends on where you are. The red eyeshadow the lead wears through the first half is a plot point rather than a style choice, and the film explains it. People who stop watching early tend to think it is the latter.
