The live action reboot, and the start of the only run of four that do follow each other. Nothing from the cartoons carries over: Dave is a struggling songwriter, the chipmunks turn up in a Christmas tree, and the Chipettes are introduced fresh in the sequel.
Then what? The three live action sequels follow in order: The Squeakquel, Chipwrecked and The Road Chip. ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks from 2015 is another fresh start, a hundred and thirty episodes over five seasons, connected to neither the eighties cartoon nor the films. The Alvin Show from 1961 is the original and its own thing. A reboot is in development for around 2028 and nothing is listed for it.
