Where to start with Anchorman

Watch the first film. Then, if you liked it, watch the strange one that came out five months later, and save the sequel for last.

  1. 1
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Ninety four minutes and the reason the rest exists. Watch this before anything else, because the other two are built out of jokes it sets up.

  2. 2
Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie (2004) Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie

A second feature made from footage cut out of the first, with a whole subplot that never made the film. It only works once you know the real version, and watching it first spoils gags in both.

  3. 3
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

The actual sequel, nine years on. Worth knowing there are two very different cuts of it: the cinema version and an R rated recut with 763 different jokes.

Then what? That is everything on screen. There is a Ron Burgundy podcast, five seasons of it between 2019 and 2022, and an in character autobiography from 2013, but neither is something you watch. Adam McKay has said more than once that the films are finished, and no third has ever been ordered.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
