Four films in order, plus a spin-off series that counts itself as canon while the films never mention it.

Where to start with Bad Boys

Four films in release order and nothing complicated about it. The one thing worth knowing is that there is a television series in the same continuity that the films themselves never acknowledge, so it is genuinely optional.

  1. 1
    Bad Boys (1995) Bad Boys

Michael Bay's first film, and much smaller than what the series became. Nothing before it, and the two leads' relationship is the only thing that carries through all four.

  2. 2
Bad Boys II (2003) Bad Boys II

Eight years later and enormously bigger, and it introduces Syd Burnett, who the spin-off series is about. It is the film the third one spends its whole runtime answering.

  3. 3
Bad Boys for Life (2020) Bad Boys for Life

Seventeen years on, with new directors and a story built entirely on what happened in the second film. It is the one that turns the series into something about getting old.

Then what? Then Ride or Die, which follows the third directly. L.A.'s Finest sits between the second and third films if you want it: it follows Syd Burnett to Los Angeles and treats the films as its own past, but no film ever refers back to it and a planned crossover was dropped, so skipping it costs nothing.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below — tick anything off in either place.

Sync & backup

Your progress is saved on this device automatically. To carry it to another device, move the code below.

The code holds only this franchise. The link opens the tracker with your progress already filled in — good for showing someone where you're at. The image is a picture you can keep anywhere: scan the code on it with a phone, or drag the file back in below.

Drag a SagaList image here, or .

This reads the progress stored inside the picture, so nothing has to be retyped. If the image has been through a messaging app it may have been re-encoded and lost that — scan the code on it instead, or copy the code printed along the bottom.

Restoring replaces the progress currently saved on this device for the franchise the code belongs to.
