On the data. Seventy five episodes if you count the two part miniseries as two, plus two television films and two prequels. Season by season that is 2, 13, 20, 20 and 20. Season 4 is where sources part company. Sci-Fi ordered twenty two episodes for it and used two of those slots to pay for Razor, so some listings say season 4 is twenty two episodes with Razor as its first two; the finale, Daybreak, was broadcast as two instalments but split into three for online sale, so other listings say twenty one. This site uses twenty aired episodes for season 4 and lists Razor separately as a film, which is how it was made and how it is sold. Season 1's year is also contested: it began on Sky One in the United Kingdom in October 2004 and on the Sci-Fi Channel in the United States in January 2005, so both years appear in different catalogues. WHERE RAZOR GOES. Razor's present day story is set during season 2, in the thirty days after Lee Adama takes command of the Pegasus, between The Captain's Hand and Lay Down Your Burdens, and it carries two sets of flashbacks: Cain's Pegasus at the moment of the attack, and William Adama as a young Viper pilot at the end of the first Cylon war. Despite being set there it was broadcast in November 2007, in the gap between seasons 3 and 4, and that is where to watch it. Slotting it into season 2 in story position spoils the Pegasus arc, since the film assumes you already know how Cain's story ends, and it removes the point of a prophecy about Kara Thrace that season 4 collects on almost immediately. The short Razor Flashbacks webisodes made to promote it are not listed. WHERE THE PLAN GOES. The Plan covers the same period as the miniseries through to the end of season 2, told from the Cylon side, and it was released on disc in October 2009, seven months after the series had finished. It is a commentary on the show rather than an episode of it: nearly every scene depends on knowing what the human characters were doing at the time, and it names the Final Five as a matter of course. Watch it after everything else, or not at all; it is widely held to be the weakest thing here and it adds very little to the story. THE PREQUELS. Caprica ran eighteen episodes in 2010, is set fifty eight years before the attack, and is about the invention of the Cylons through two grieving families and a virtual world. It is a different genre from the series, which is why people bounce off it, and Syfy cancelled it in October 2010 and pulled the last five episodes from the schedule, so its ending arrived as a burn off. It is best watched after the main series rather than first: watched first it is slow and unexplained, watched after it fills in where the Cylons came from and how Adama's family fits. Blood and Chrome was released as ten web segments in late 2012 and broadcast as a single film on Syfy in February 2013. It is set in the tenth year of the first Cylon war, roughly forty years before the series, and it was a pilot that was never picked up. Optional. WHAT IS NOT HERE. The 1978 Battlestar Galactica and Galactica 1980 are a separate continuity, not an earlier chapter of this one: the 2003 miniseries restarts the story with different characters, a different Cylon origin and a different ending, so listing them together would imply a connection that does not exist on screen. The Face of the Enemy webisodes and the other online shorts are not listed. Sam Esmail's reboot was dropped by Peacock in 2024, so nothing here is forthcoming.
