The Purge

Five films and two seasons of television, and the show sits inside the films rather than beside them.

Where to start with The Purge

Release order and story order differ in one place, and the television series is not a side story. It slots into the middle of the film timeline, and its two seasons are about nine in-universe years apart from each other.

  1. 1
    The Purge (2013) The Purge

A small home-invasion film that explains the premise in one card and then stays in one house. It is captioned 2022 on screen and needs nothing before it.

  2. 2
The Purge: Anarchy (2014) The Purge: Anarchy

Captioned 2023 and out on the street rather than in a house, which is where the series finds what it is actually about. It introduces the character who carries the next film.

  3. 3
The First Purge (2018) The First Purge

The prequel, showing the original experiment on Staten Island before any of the rest. It works best here rather than first, because it is answering questions the first two raise.

Then what? Election Year follows Anarchy, and The Forever Purge closes the films out. The television series belongs between Anarchy and Election Year, but do not treat it as one block: its two seasons are set roughly nine years apart in-universe, so they bracket rather than sit together. If you want strict chronology instead, start with The First Purge.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below — tick anything off in either place.

Your progress is saved on this device automatically. To carry it to another device, move the code below.

The code holds only this franchise. The link opens the tracker with your progress already filled in — good for showing someone where you're at. The image is a picture you can keep anywhere: scan the code on it with a phone, or drag the file back in below.

Drag a SagaList image here, or .

This reads the progress stored inside the picture, so nothing has to be retyped. If the image has been through a messaging app it may have been re-encoded and lost that — scan the code on it instead, or copy the code printed along the bottom.

Restoring replaces the progress currently saved on this device for the franchise the code belongs to.
