On the data. ONE CROSSOVER IN THIRTY YEARS, which is the surprising thing about a franchise where two shows ran on the same network on the same night for seven years. Jake Hanson appears in exactly two Beverly Hills, 90210 episodes, 30 April and 7 May 1992, and then leads Melrose Place from 8 July. Kelly, Steve, David and Donna appear in the spin-off's first three episodes. After that: no two-part events, no shared storylines, nothing that needs ordering. The two shows simply coexist. IT IS NOT A BACKDOOR PILOT, and neither is the Models Inc. launch. A backdoor pilot is an episode of one show that serves as the pilot of another. Here each spin-off got its own separate pilot episode weeks later, and no episode is counted on two shows. Wikipedia describes the Melrose Place launch as a crossover story rather than a pilot, and the Models Inc. plan that WOULD have been a backdoor pilot, moving two models into the Melrose Place apartments first, was abandoned before it aired. BH90210 IS OUTSIDE THE CONTINUITY and that is not an opinion of ours. The actors play fictionalised versions of themselves. Wikipedia's franchise article tags it as outside continuity. It is on the page because it is part of the story of the franchise, and in its own group so nobody mistakes it for a seventh season of anything. THE MELROSE PLACE SEASON SIX AND SEVEN SPLIT IS THE ONE REAL DISAGREEMENT. Both schemes total two hundred and twenty-six. Wikipedia gives thirty-four and twenty-eight, which matches the series' own overall episode numbering. TVmaze gives twenty-seven and thirty-five, which is what you get if the seven episodes broadcast in the summer of 1998 are filed by calendar year instead. Wikipedia's split is stored. A season and episode number taken from TVmaze will not match this page for those two seasons. TWO SHOWS SHARE A NAME AND SO DO TWO MORE. Melrose Place 1992 and Melrose Place 2009 are different rows, as are Beverly Hills, 90210 and 90210. Any listing that matches on title alone will merge them, and the 2009 Melrose Place premiered the same month as 90210's second season. THE SUMMER SEASONS BREAK DATE GUESSING. Seasons two, three and seven of the original all started in July or August. A tool that infers a season break from a gap in the calendar will cut those seasons in the wrong place.
