The Blair Witch Project

One film, then two sequels that branch off it in different directions and ignore each other.

Where to start with The Blair Witch Project

The first film, then pick a branch, because the two sequels are not in the same line as each other. One is a sequel to the events and one is a sequel to the film itself.

  1. 1
The Blair Witch Project (1999) The Blair Witch Project

Opens on a title card saying three student filmmakers disappeared near Burkittsville in October 1994 and that their footage was found a year later. Everything else here comes off it.

  2. 2
    Blair Witch (2016) Blair Witch

The direct sequel. Heather's younger brother finds footage online in 2014 that might show her, and goes back into the forest. It treats Book of Shadows as not having happened.

  3. 3
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000) Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2

The other branch, and the strange one. It is set in 2000 in a world where The Blair Witch Project is a hit film, and follows fans taking a Blair Witch tour of the real Burkittsville. Conventional filmmaking rather than found footage.

Then what? Curse of the Blair Witch is an hour of fake documentary broadcast three days before the first film opened, and it is the one tie-in worth watching, because it is what persuaded a lot of people the film was real. Two more television mockumentaries followed in 2000. A reboot is dated for 24 September 2027 with Lionsgate and Blumhouse and has no title yet, so nothing is listed for it.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
