Where to start with Captain Tsubasa

Pick one anime and stay in it. Four of the five start again from the beginning of the same manga, so watching them in order means watching the same childhood three times.

  1. 1
    Captain Tsubasa (2018) Captain Tsubasa

The best way in today. It starts from volume one, it is properly animated, and its second season in 2023 actually continues it rather than restarting. Ninety one episodes across the two.

  2. 2
    Captain Tsubasa (1983) Captain Tsubasa

The original, and the version most of the world saw under a local name. A hundred and twenty eight episodes, and the only one that reaches the Junior World Cup. Be warned it stretches single matches across many episodes.

  3. 3
Shin Captain Tsubasa (1989) Shin Captain Tsubasa

Thirteen episodes on video, and the only entry in the entire franchise that continues another one. It follows the 1983 series and nothing else does.

Then what? Captain Tsubasa J from 1994 and Road to 2002 from 2001 each compress the early story again before covering later manga, so they overlap rather than continue. Four short theatrical films from 1985 and 1986 are side stories tied to the original series.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
