Where to start with Dexter's Laboratory

Release order works, with one catch: the series finale was made in 1999 and two more seasons came out after it. Decide up front whether you want the ending in the middle or at the end.

  1. 1
    Dexter's Laboratory, seasons 1 and 2 (1996 to 1998) Dexter's Laboratory

Genndy Tartakovsky's run, and the part everybody means. Season one carries the Dial M for Monkey and Justice Friends segments in its middle slot, which surprise people who do not expect them.

  2. 2
Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip (1999) Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip

Written and produced as the series finale, and the last thing Tartakovsky made for the show. If you want the intended ending, stop here.

  3. 3
    Dexter's Laboratory, seasons 3 and 4 (2001 to 2003) Rude Removal

The revival, made by a different team while Tartakovsky was off launching Samurai Jack. Not a continuity reset, but the look, the voices and the jokes all shift, and this is the contested part of the franchise.

Then what? Rude Removal is a banned second-season story that went online in 2013 and can be watched any time. Nothing else exists and nothing is in development: Tartakovsky has said publicly that he is not interested in a revival, which makes this the only one of Cartoon Network's big three that is genuinely finished.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
