Grease

Two films, a live broadcast and a prequel series, and the stage show they all came from.

Where to start with Grease

The 1978 film and then stop, unless you are curious. Everything else here is optional and most of it is not very good. The one thing worth knowing in advance is that the film came from a stage musical seven years earlier and is quite different from it, which surprises people who see the show first and find songs missing.

  1. 1
    Grease (1978) Grease

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John at Rydell High. Still the highest grossing musical film of its era and the reason anything else on this page exists.

  2. 2
    Grease Live! (2016) Grease Live!

A live television production on Fox, staged and broadcast in one go. The best of the follow-ups and a genuinely impressive piece of television.

  3. 3
    Grease 2 (1982) Grease 2

Only if you want it. A sequel with a new cast at the same school, widely disliked on release and since rehabilitated by people who find it funnier than the original.

Then what? Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies ran ten episodes on Paramount+ in 2023, set in 1954 and following the founding of the Pink Ladies four years before the film. It was cancelled in June 2023 and removed from the service. A prequel film called Summer Lovin' has been in early development since 2019 and does not exist.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
