Where to start with [REC]

Release order for the Spanish four. The third film is set alongside the first two rather than after them, but it still belongs third, because it contains a reveal that only works once you know what is going on.

  1. 1
    [REC] (2007) [REC]

A television reporter follows a fire crew into a Barcelona apartment block and the building is sealed behind them. Seventy eight minutes, one camera, nothing before it.

  2. 2
    [REC] 2 (2009) [REC] 2

Resumes minutes later, same night, same building, with a tactical team going in. Dialogue puts it about two hours after the first crew entered. These two are effectively one film.

  3. 3
    [REC] 4: Apocalypse (2014) [REC] 4: Apocalypse

Opens immediately after the second film, with Angela extracted from the building, and moves to a quarantined ship. It is the chronological end of the series.

Then what? [REC] 3: Genesis from 2012 sits between those in release order and alongside them in story: it is a separate outbreak at a wedding on the same day, which is why it is subtitled Genesis. Watch it third, after the second film and before the fourth. It also starts as found footage and then abandons it about twenty minutes in, when a character smashes the camera on the floor and the title card comes up. The two American films are a different continuity: Quarantine remakes the first film, and Quarantine 2 is not a remake of the second but its own story with its own explanation.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
