Snow White

On the data. Two films and a lot of history. The 1937 film is the first feature length cel animated film ever made and it was widely expected to fail. The industry nickname for it while it was in production was Disney's Folly. It made enough money to build the Burbank studio and to fund everything that followed, and the multiplane camera work in it was new. The 2025 live action version had an unusually public and unpleasant few years before release. There were objections to the casting of the lead, separate objections from within the little person acting community about the portrayal of the dwarfs, a decision to replace them with computer generated characters, and then objections to that decision too. The release was delayed, the premiere was scaled back, and the film lost a substantial amount of money. Whatever you think of any of it, none of that argument is in the 1937 film. The Grimm tale, first printed in 1812, is much harsher than either film. The queen asks for the girl's lungs and liver, tries three times to kill her, and is executed by being made to dance in heated iron shoes. Disney kept the poisoned apple and dropped the rest. There is no sequel to either film and there is no series.
