Where to start with Tenchi Muyo!

This is not one story told in order. There are three main versions of the same premise and they contradict each other. Choose one and commit.

  1. 1
The OVA route Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki

Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, the direct to video series. Six episodes in 1992, six more in 1994, six in 2003 and four in 2016. This is the original, it is the creator's own version, and GXP and War on Geminar hang off it.

  2. 2
The Tenchi Universe route Tenchi Universe

Twenty six episodes from 1995. A television retelling that keeps the cast and changes nearly everything else. The two best films, In Love and Tenchi Forever, follow this one.

  3. 3
The Tenchi in Tokyo route Tenchi in Tokyo

Twenty six episodes from 1997, a third version with redesigned characters. Listed for completeness. Almost nobody recommends starting here.

Then what? GXP and War on Geminar belong to the OVA continuity and both work on their own. The Daughter of Darkness film sits awkwardly between continuities. Pretty Sammy and Ai Tenchi Muyo! are parodies and belong to nothing.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
