Where to start with Three-Body Problem

These are three parallel tracks, not one timeline. Pick a track and stay on it. Interleaving them will hand you the same events told three incompatible ways and spoil all three.

  1. 1
3 Body Problem (Netflix, 2024) 3 Body Problem

The shortest route in. Eight episodes compress book one and pull plot forward from books two and three, so a viewer of this knows things a Tencent viewer does not. Much of the present-day action moves to London and Oxford, and the novel's protagonist Wang Miao is split into an ensemble.

  2. 2
    Three-Body (Tencent, 2023) Three-Body

The long faithful route. Thirty episodes covering book one alone, set in China throughout, tracking the novel closely. Take this instead of the Netflix series, not as well as, unless you want the same story twice.

  3. 3
The Three-Body Problem (Bilibili, 2022) The Three-Body Problem

Not an entry point. It adapts book two, so it assumes book one, and reception was poor. Watch it only after you already know the story.

  4. 4
    The novels The Three-Body Problem

Three books in order: The Three-Body Problem, The Dark Forest, Death's End. The series name is Remembrance of Earth's Past, which is not the name of any one book.

Then what? The 2015 Chinese film was shot and never released, so there is nothing to watch there. A Zhang Yimou film has been reported and is not confirmed.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
