Where to start with View Askewniverse

Release order for a first watch, even though Mallrats is set the day before Clerks. Later films depend on jokes the earlier ones plant, so going by story order costs you more than it gives.

  1. 1
    Clerks (1994) Clerks

Where all of it starts, and the cheapest looking film here by a mile. Black and white, one shop, one day. Everything else assumes you have met these people.

  2. 2
    Mallrats (1995) Mallrats

Set the day before Clerks, so it is the earliest thing in the run chronologically. Watch it second anyway: it is much broader, and it works better once you know what this world usually looks like.

  3. 3
    Chasing Amy (1997) Chasing Amy

The best film of the nine and the one the later entries keep returning to. It also invents the comic that becomes the 2013 animated film.

Then what? After that it runs in release order with no surprises: Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks II, the animated Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III. The animated series is six episodes and optional. Kevin Smith made plenty of films that are not part of this world, including Jersey Girl, Cop Out, Red State, Tusk and Yoga Hosers, so a Kevin Smith category page on a streaming service is not the same as this list.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
