On the data. The episode count is the first thing to get straight, because it moves every week and no two places agree. Animefillerlist listed 1,209 episodes when this was written; next-episode.net has the most recent broadcast as 1 August 2026 and counts twenty-three episodes in the 2026 block, which lines up with a 2026 run starting at episode 1187 and gives the same total. Wikipedia is less consistent with itself here: its season 33 article and its seasons 31-onward list give different numbers for the most recent episode, 1206 and 1199, on dates a month apart. This site uses 1,209 as of the 1 August 2026 broadcast and flags the count as unconfirmed, and the sensible expectation is that it is a few episodes short within weeks of you reading it. Filler is the reason people arrive at this page. Animefillerlist counts 638 manga canon episodes, 571 filler and one anime canon, which it publishes as 47 per cent filler, the highest of any long-running series it tracks. That figure is worth attributing rather than stating flatly, because the definition is doing a lot of work: Detective Conan's anime-original episodes are usually complete murder cases in the same style as the adapted ones rather than padding around a plot, so 'filler' here means 'not from the manga' and not 'skippable nonsense'. The practical consequence is that a skip list is close to useless for this series in a way it is not for Naruto or Bleach. The filler is not stacked in long blocks; it is scattered one and two episodes at a time from episode 6 onward, with the longest early runs around 179 to 187, 196 to 204 and 248 to 262. Nobody manages a 571-entry skip list. What people actually do, and what the Where to start panel above does, is track the Black Organization episodes and treat the rest as a series you can dip into anywhere. Seasons are a mess and it is worth knowing why before you trust any number. Japanese broadcast has run continuously since January 1996 with no season breaks at all. Wikipedia and Japanese home video divide that run into 33 seasons of uneven length; TheTVDB, TVmaze and the trackers built on them divide it into calendar years; Crunchyroll divides it differently again; next-episode.net currently calls the present block season 34. This site uses the calendar-year division because it is the only one that is internally consistent, verifiable and contiguous from episode 1 to the present, and because every season label here carries the real episode numbers, which is the part you can actually navigate by. If a service tells you something is season 12, check the episode number before you trust it. The films: twenty-nine, and the honest answer to 'which ones matter' is none of them, in the sense that the manga has never referred to a film and no film event is ever acknowledged by the series. Films 13, 20 and 26 each invent a Black Organization member of their own, Irish, Curacao and Pinga, none of whom appears in the manga; that is the closest the films come to touching the main plot. What the films do need is context, which is why guides place them: The Last Wizard of the Century and Crimson Love Letter want you to have met Kaitou Kid and Heiji, Dimensional Sniper wants Shuichi Akai, and Zero the Enforcer wants Amuro, who does not appear until episode 667. Film 24, The Scarlet Bullet, was held from 2020 to 2021, which is why the annual run has a gap. The genuine exceptions to 'nothing outside the numbered episodes counts' are two. Episode One, The Great Detective Turned Small (2016) is a feature-length retelling of the first case supervised by Gosho Aoyama, with material the 1996 version did not have room for. And the Police Academy Arc, Wild Police Story, is not a separate series at all despite being sold as a spin-off: its five episodes were broadcast inside the main run with main-series episode numbers, starting at 1029, so if you are watching in order you have already seen them. The two Lupin III crossovers, the 2009 television special and the 2013 film, are outside both franchises' stories and are listed here only so nobody has to wonder. Not listed: Detective Conan Episode of Ai Haibara, Black Iron Mystery Train (2023), which is a compilation of existing episodes cut together and released alongside film 26, and the various one-off television specials that are simply long episodes with their own numbers. On the spin-off series. Magic Kaito is a separate manga by the same author, and Aoyama has said repeatedly that the two are set in different continuities, despite Kaitou Kid appearing constantly in Detective Conan. It has been animated twice, as twelve television specials aired inside the Detective Conan slot between 2010 and 2012, and again as the 24-episode Magic Kaito 1412 in 2014 by a different studio, which re-tells many of the same stories. Watch one or the other, not both expecting new material. Zero's Tea Time and The Culprit Hanzawa are comedies about the daily lives of a supporting character and of the anonymous murderer respectively, and neither moves anything. On the English release: Funimation's dub, retitled Case Closed with the whole cast renamed, stopped in the early hundreds of episodes and was never finished, so everything past that point has only ever been available subtitled. The renaming is worth knowing about before you go looking for a character by name.
