Five films in a straight line, and the only real question is which two are Christmas films.
Release order, five films, one continuity, no prequels and no branches. This is one of the simplest franchises there is, so the useful thing to know is which ones are worth your time rather than what order to take them in.

One building, one man, Christmas Eve, and the film every action film made since has copied. Nothing before it, and it works completely on its own.
Same character at Christmas again, this time in an airport, and it directly follows the first. It is the only sequel that leans on the first film's cast.
New York in summer, no Christmas, and a villain with a personal reason to come back. It is the one most people rate second-best of the five.
Then what? Then Live Free or Die Hard and A Good Day to Die Hard, which are twelve and eighteen years later and much less well liked. Nothing in the series requires the earlier films to follow the later ones, so stopping after any of them costs you nothing.
