Where to start with Dragonheart

Watch the 1996 film. Everything after it is straight to video, and three of the four are prequels, so the numbers tell you nothing about the order.

  1. 1
    Dragonheart (1996) Dragonheart

Dennis Quaid and Sean Connery as the last dragon. The only theatrical entry and by a very long way the best of the five.

  2. 2
Dragonheart: A New Beginning (2000) Dragonheart: A New Beginning

The only true sequel. Twenty years on in story, straight to video, and a big step down. After this the series stops moving forward entirely.

  3. 3
    Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer's Curse (2015) Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer's Curse

Where the prequels start, fifteen years after the last film with an entirely new creative team. In story terms it is the earliest thing here, but it is written for people who have seen the original.

Then what? Battle for the Heartfire from 2017 and Vengeance from 2020 are also prequels. Vengeance is the awkward one: its writer has said it starts before Battle for the Heartfire and finishes after it, so it cannot be given a clean slot. Story order for the whole series is The Sorcerer's Curse, Vengeance, Battle for the Heartfire, the 1996 original, then A New Beginning.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
