Three films, made in the order they were published rather than the order the story happens, which is the same argument readers have been having about the novels for seventy years. For the films it barely matters, because only three of the seven were ever made.

The first book published and the way almost everyone comes to Narnia. Nothing before it, and the later films assume you have seen it.
Set a year later for the children and thirteen hundred years later in Narnia, which the film explains but does not dwell on. Noticeably darker than the first, on purpose.
The last one made, and it changes studio, tone and two of the four leads. It ends the film series without concluding the books, so go in knowing there is no fourth.
Then what? The other four novels were never filmed in this run, so the story simply stops. A new adaptation has been in the works for some time at Netflix without anything having been released. If you want the whole thing, the books are the only way to get it.
