On the data. Two entirely separate adaptations of the same books. The Disney+ series is not a continuation of the films and shares no cast, no continuity and no narrative connection with them. Rick Riordan was largely shut out of the films and has been blunt about it in public, saying it was his life's work going through a meat grinder, that he pleaded with them not to do it, and that he has never watched them and does not plan to; he judges them from the scripts and has been careful to say the actors are not at fault. He is an executive producer and co-writer on the series. Season two ran from 10 December 2025 to 21 January 2026, and a third season was ordered in March 2025 and dated 20 November 2026 at Comic-Con, adapting The Titan's Curse. Disney has not announced its episode count, so none is listed. The original novels are five: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian. Riordan's connected series, The Heroes of Olympus and The Trials of Apollo, are five books each and neither has been adapted or ordered; the producers have said they would like to get there, which is interest rather than a commission. No film or season states a setting year. Note that the 2013 film and the second season of the series adapt the same novel, so there is no order in which you watch both and make progress. The nineteen published novels are listed as their own section, and this is where the order question actually lives. They are four linked runs in one continuity: Percy Jackson and the Olympians is five books, The Heroes of Olympus is five more, The Trials of Apollo is five after that, and two later strands run alongside each other, the Nico di Angelo books written with Mark Oshiro and the Senior Year Adventures. For the first fifteen, publication order and story order are the same thing, so read them as they came out. The Trials of Apollo is not skippable if you want the ending, even though Apollo narrates it and Percy is barely in it, because it resolves what the first two runs leave open. The only real ambiguity is how the four later books interleave, since all of them sit after The Tower of Nero and no firm in-story ordering has been stated; they are listed here in publication order rather than an invented one. A third Senior Year book has been confirmed as in progress with no title and no announced date, so it is not listed. The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase are separate mythologies with occasional crossovers and are not part of this sequence. On screen only the first three novels have been adapted, one per season.
