On the data. The chronology on this page is a reconstruction and should be treated as one. Brian Jacques never published a timeline, and the ordering that circulates is assembled by readers from internal evidence such as abbot successions, character ages and generational references. Two sources checked agree on the sequence, but the same encyclopedia that gives Mariel of Redwall a sixth position says in its own article on that book that it is fourth, which is a live contradiction rather than a settled fact. The Legend of Luke is a genuine judgement call rather than a disagreement: it is a frame story in which Martin travels north, an event that falls after Mossflower, while its middle section flashes back to Luke's life, which predates everything in the series including Lord Brocktree. Placing it fourth orders it by the frame, not the content. Outcast of Redwall covers most of one character's life and therefore overlaps three books rather than sitting cleanly before them, so its position is a start date convention. And from The Taggerung in 2001 onward, the two orders are identical, because Jacques stopped writing prequels after Lord Brocktree. So the shuffling is a bounded problem covering the first thirteen published books, not the whole series. Publication years here are United Kingdom first publication. Several United States editions landed a year later, which is why some lists show Redwall as 1987, and one source gives Mattimeo as 1990 against 1989 elsewhere. Note also that there is no 1986 to 2011 book for the year 2006; the gap between High Rhulain and Eulalia is real. The animated series is 39 episodes, three seasons of thirteen, verified from two sources, produced by Nelvana with partners in France and Germany and broadcast on Teletoon in Canada. Its United States airings on public television ran up to two years behind the Canadian originals, so episode dates differ sharply by territory even though the counts do not. Redwall: The Movie is a feature length abridged edit of the first season, released in the United Kingdom in 1999 and North America at the end of 2000. It matters because it shares a name with a Netflix film that was announced and never made, and the two are constantly confused. On that: Netflix acquired film and television rights to the whole series in February 2021, not 2018, announcing a feature written by Patrick McHale and an animated event series about Martin the Warrior. McHale's involvement ended during Netflix's restructuring and he formally exited in 2023, the Martin series never progressed past planning, and on 9 April 2026 Netflix confirmed it had dropped the project, with rights reverting to Penguin Random House. Nothing was ever produced, no footage and no cast. One trap: coverage of the cancellation cited a Netflix page listing a cast, and that cast is the 1999 animated voice cast attached to the old compilation film, several of whom have since died. No cast was ever attached to a Netflix production. As of now there is no successor adaptation announced. Two smaller points for a page like this: the author's surname is pronounced Jakes, which is the single most common error about the series, and the reference booklets from the 1998 to 2003 merchandise era, the Map and Riddler, Friend and Foe, and the three Tribes of Redwall volumes, are long out of print and are deliberately not listed here.
