Hyperion is a Canterbury Tales frame that stops mid-journey with nothing resolved. Simmons has said the two were one novel split for publishing reasons. Do not start the first without the second to hand.
Two hundred and seventy-four years later, and a genuine decision point rather than a continuation. A large number of readers stop after The Fall of Hyperion and are happy. The other camp says these two complete the theology and the Shrike's arc.
A novelette from 1999, collected in Worlds Enough and Time in 2002, and chronologically the end of everything. Most readers never find it.
