MacGyver

Two unconnected series and two reunion films, and the reboot quietly belongs to somebody else's universe.

Where to start with MacGyver

Two series with the same name and no connection between them, so you can start with either. The one genuinely surprising fact is which universe the newer one belongs to.

  1. 1
    MacGyver, season 1 MacGyver

Twenty-two episodes of a man solving problems with whatever is in the room, and no serialised plot to keep up with. Nothing before it.

  2. 2
MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis (1994) MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis

The first of two reunion films made two years after the series ended, and they follow its continuity directly. Watch them after the seventh season.

  3. 3
    MacGyver, season 1 (2016) MacGyver

A clean slate with a new cast and no carryover, so it can be watched first, last or never. Its eighteenth episode is a crossover with Hawaii Five-0, which is the only thing tying it to anything.

Then what? The original runs seven seasons and one hundred and thirty-nine episodes, then the two 1994 films. The reboot runs five seasons and ended in April 2021. That crossover in the reboot's first season is one-way: there is no Hawaii Five-0 episode to pair with it, and the Five-0 episode that aired the same night is unrelated.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below — tick anything off in either place.

Sync & backup

Your progress is saved on this device automatically. To carry it to another device, move the code below.

The code holds only this franchise. The link opens the tracker with your progress already filled in — good for showing someone where you're at. The image is a picture you can keep anywhere: scan the code on it with a phone, or drag the file back in below.

Drag a SagaList image here, or .

This reads the progress stored inside the picture, so nothing has to be retyped. If the image has been through a messaging app it may have been re-encoded and lost that — scan the code on it instead, or copy the code printed along the bottom.

Restoring replaces the progress currently saved on this device for the franchise the code belongs to.
