Where to start with The Maze Runner

Three films in release order, which is also story order, and the trilogy actually finishes. The useful thing to know is not about order at all, it is about what was never filmed.

  1. 1
The Maze Runner (2014) The Maze Runner

Drops you into the Glade knowing exactly as much as its lead does, which is nothing. That is deliberate, and the two prequel novels that would explain it were never made into films.

  2. 2
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Leaves the maze behind entirely and turns into something closer to a chase film. It follows directly and diverges heavily from its book.

  3. 3
Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018) Maze Runner: The Death Cure

Came out two and a half years later than planned after Dylan O'Brien was badly injured during filming. It finishes the trilogy properly, which is not something every series in this genre managed.

Then what? That is all three, and the story ends. A fourth film was announced in 2024 as something between a continuation and a fresh start, with new characters returning to the Glade, and it has had no update since. There is no Maze Runner television series and there never has been.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below — tick anything off in either place.

Sync & backup

Your progress is saved on this device automatically. To carry it to another device, move the code below.

The code holds only this franchise. The link opens the tracker with your progress already filled in — good for showing someone where you're at. The image is a picture you can keep anywhere: scan the code on it with a phone, or drag the file back in below.

Drag a SagaList image here, or .

This reads the progress stored inside the picture, so nothing has to be retyped. If the image has been through a messaging app it may have been re-encoded and lost that — scan the code on it instead, or copy the code printed along the bottom.

Restoring replaces the progress currently saved on this device for the franchise the code belongs to.
