Where to start with Outlander

Eight seasons then the prequel, and the temptation to reverse that is the one thing worth resisting. The prequel is earlier in time and later in every way that matters to how it plays.

  1. 1
    Outlander, season 1 Outlander

Sixteen episodes, released as two halves eight months apart, moving between 1945 Inverness and 1743 Scotland. Nothing before it, and both years are stated rather than inferred.

  2. 2
    Outlander, season 7 Outlander

Sixteen episodes and the other split season, with the second half arriving a year after the first. Watch it as one season rather than two, whatever your streaming menu calls it.

  3. 3
Outlander: Blood of My Blood, season 1 Outlander: Blood of My Blood

Ten episodes following both sets of parents, one strand in eighteenth century Scotland and one in England during the First World War. It is written for people who already know who these children grow up to be.

Then what? Seasons two to six run straight on, and season eight finished the series on 15 May 2026. Then the prequel, whose second season starts on 18 September 2026 with no episode count announced. If you want to start the prequel earlier, after season one of the main series is the earliest point that works, because all it really needs is Claire's arrival in 1743.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below — tick anything off in either place.

Your progress is saved on this device automatically. To carry it to another device, move the code below.

The code holds only this franchise. The link opens the tracker with your progress already filled in — good for showing someone where you're at. The image is a picture you can keep anywhere: scan the code on it with a phone, or drag the file back in below.

Drag a SagaList image here, or .

This reads the progress stored inside the picture, so nothing has to be retyped. If the image has been through a messaging app it may have been re-encoded and lost that — scan the code on it instead, or copy the code printed along the bottom.

Restoring replaces the progress currently saved on this device for the franchise the code belongs to.
